Tool Library Guide

Add Your New Bits to Your Software

Importing adds our bits next to your own tools. Your existing tools and settings stay as they are. It takes about a minute.

First, Get Your Library File

  • Just the bits you own: use My Tool Library (or the button in your order email). Your order's bits are already checked. Pick your machine class and download. You get the library file directly.
  • Every HCT bit: download from Tool Libraries. That download is a .zip; extract it first (Windows: right-click → Extract All. Mac: double-click).
  • Vectric files end in .vtdb. Fusion 360 files end in .tools.

VCarve & Aspire (.vtdb)

  1. 1

    Open a job.

Start a new file or open an existing one. The Tool Database is only available with a job open.

  2. 2

    Open the Tool Database.

From the top menu: Toolpaths → Tool Database.

  3. 3

    Click Import.

It's one of the small icons under the tool list (hover to see the names). Choose the .vtdb file you downloaded.

  4. 4

    Choose Merge, not Replace.

Merge adds our bits to your database. Replace would swap out your whole tool database for ours.

  5. 5

Find the High Country Tools group.

Our bits arrive in their own High Country Tools group, with feeds and speeds for each material. Pick the material that matches your job when you choose the bit.

Updating to a newer HCT library? Delete the old High Country Tools group first, then merge the new file, so you don't end up with two copies of the same bit.

Want a safety net? Export your current Tool Database before importing. Vectric also keeps automatic backups: File → Open Application Data Folder → backups → tooldatabase.

Fusion 360 (.tools)

  1. 1

    Open the Tool Library.

In the Manufacture workspace, click Manage → Tool Library.

  2. 2

    Import it.

On the left, right-click Local (or your Cloud library) and choose Import Libraries. Pick the .tools file.

  3. 3

Use it, or move the bits into your own library.

It shows up as its own library, next to yours. To keep everything in one place, select the new bits, copy them, and paste them into the library you already use.

  4. 4

Pick a preset in your toolpath.

Each bit has a preset per material, such as "Hardwood". Many end mills also have "Hardwood – Adaptive" presets for adaptive clearing. Choose the preset on the toolpath's Tool tab and the speeds and feeds fill in.

Start in scrap

Our numbers are measured starting points, and every machine is different. Run your first pass in scrap, listen to the cut, and adjust. High Country Tools is not responsible for tool breakage.
